First Steps on uaRO

What uaRO Is

uaRO (Ukrainian Ragnarok Online) is a private server for classic Ragnarok on the uAthena engine, recreated for Episode 11.2 in pre-renewal format. It is the same cozy classic, without the modern simplifications of renewal mechanics.

  • Honest 1×/1×/1× rates — experience, item drops and card drops with no multipliers, the way the game was meant to be played.
  • Maximum base level 99 and job level 50 — the real pre-renewal cap.
  • No pay-to-win: everything is earned by playing, not by spending.
  • OpenKore and bots are allowed — automate the grind however suits you.

If you enjoy slower, meaningful progress and value every level, this is the place for you.

Creating Your Character

Everyone starts the same way — as a Novice. This is the base class with no combat skills, from which you will later advance into a first job (Swordman, Mage, Archer, Acolyte, Merchant or Thief).

On the creation screen you distribute your base stats (STR, AGI, VIT, INT, DEX, LUK). Don't overthink your first character: for the start it's enough to put a little into the stat that matches your future class (for example DEX and AGI for an Archer, INT and DEX for a Mage). Character names are unique, so pick something of your own.

Basic Controls

Controls in Ragnarok are simple, and you play mostly with the mouse.

  • Left click on the ground to move; click on a monster to attack.
  • Double click an NPC to talk.
  • Hotkeys: Alt+E for inventory, Alt+S for the stats window, Alt+A for skills, Alt+Q for the equipment window.
  • Skills can be dragged onto the hotbar (F1–F9) for quick use.

Spend your first few minutes just walking around town, clicking NPCs, and getting used to the camera and movement.

First Monsters Near Town

The starting area leads you to the Novice Training Grounds, and then out to the fields around the towns. Near Prontera and the neighboring maps you'll meet the safest monsters to begin with:

  • Poring — a round little slime, completely harmless and the perfect first target; it drops Jellopy and other odds and ends.
  • Lunatic — a pink bunny, also weak and safe.
  • Fabre and Pupa — a caterpillar and a cocoon, dropping Clover and cheap loot.

Fight these monsters until you get comfortable with combat and have saved up your first zeny for basic gear (such as a Knife and a few Red Potions).

Where to Level Before Your Job Change

While you are a Novice, your goal is to build job level, not to chase base level. Stick to the weak fields around your starting town:

  • The fields south and west of Prontera (prt_fild) — Poring, Lunatic, Fabre, Spore.
  • Don't venture into tough dungeons or toward aggressive monsters until you have a combat class.

Once you've gathered enough job level, it's time to choose your first job and complete the matching job change quest.

The Point of Job Level and Basic Skill

The Novice has one key skill — Basic Skill. It can be raised to level 9, and each rank unlocks core interface functions: trading with other players, opening a vending shop, sitting to regenerate, joining a party, and more.

Job level grows from killing monsters and grants job points, which you spend on skills. To change into a first job you usually need job level 10 and a fully learned Basic Skill (level 9). So the Novice's main task is to max Basic Skill and reach job 10.

When you're ready, move on to the job change guide, which explains where to go and what to do for each class.
